Financing
How much funding does my business actually need?
Separate operating break-even from growth capital, inventory cycles, and cash timing gaps to estimate funding needs without over-raising.
Educational overview only—not investment, legal, tax, or lending advice. CPS does not provide funding; independent providers make their own decisions.
Start with operating sustainability
Before sizing investment, estimate how many sales cover fixed expenses (break-even volume) and whether collections arrive in time to pay obligations. Funding requests grounded in operating math are easier to evaluate than round-number targets.
Three funding buckets
Most businesses combine:
- Working capital for inventory, fulfillment, and collection gaps
- Operating buffer for variability in sales and expenses
- Growth capital for channels, capacity, or geographic expansion
Avoid conflating survival and growth
Capital that covers chronic operating losses behaves differently from capital that funds identifiable growth with measurable unit economics. Lenders and investors typically ask which category you are addressing.
CPS pathways help classify whether your immediate need is market entry, distribution, transaction support, or growth financing—without prescribing a single funding product.
